Head & Heart - August 2014

What I’ve been grateful for:

Medicare, I’ve been in and out of the Drs so much lately. We are a one income family with four children, we pay for private health cover and honestly I don’t think we should have to pay for visits to the GP, no one should.

My husband, he’s just a cool guy, he doesn’t have tantrums or lose his shit like I do sometimes. We celebrated our 8 year wedding anniversary and he got me a Tibetan singing bowl.

Water, we went without it for a morning, there was some burst pipe or something (I’m not really sure). It was uncomfortable and it made me reflect on those around the world who don’t have access to clean water.

What I’ve been thinking about:

Getting a job or continuing my studies, something in the beauty industry still.

What I’m excited for:

My daughter’s birthday (she’ll be 8!)

I’ll be working through The Artist’s Way book with Dana from Tao of Dana so that will be interesting. I’m hoping it will reinvigorate me in some profound way.

What I’ve been doing:

Watching Masters Of Sex. I went to see Boyhood at the cinema with one of my BFFs and loved it. It made me reflect on childhood, family and motherhood.

Listening to King Krule, yup still, love his album. I do plan on downloading a heap of surf music to get me in the mood for spring/summer.

Reading cookbooks, The Blender Girl and The Oh She Glows Cookbook.

What I’ve been spending money on

Makeup, Illamasqua, Nars, Hourglass, Laura Mercier, Kat Von D, Too Faced, Charlotte Tilbury, Anastasia.

Max Factor FOTD

I was sent a few products from Max factor a while back and I’ve finally got around to reviewing them. Go me!

Base - Max Factor Face Finity 3 in 1 Foundation - shade Sand 60, this is a primer, concealer and foundation all in one. I’d say it lives up to these claims, it’s a thicker foundation, but it blended easily enough over my skin. I’d say this is more suited to oily/combination skin types. I used this on a friend (with oily skin) and it looked great and according to her it lasted all day.

Eyeshadow - Max Factor Wild Shadow Pot in 35 Auburn Envy, all over lid, 107 Burnt Bark blended through crease and lower lash line, 25 Savage Rose as inner corner highlight. These shadows were soft, pigmented and blended easily, I did experience fall out when applying these though but as I always do my eyes first this wasn’t a big problem for me.

Liner - Max Factor Colour X-pert Waterproof liner in 01 Deep Balck, applied along top lash line. This was easy enough to use and was very black.

Mascara - Max Factor Excess Volume, this is a two step mascara, step one has a rubberised brush (extreme volume) and step two has a traditional brush (dark lacquer) I’d say this did a good job of adding length and volume to my lashes. This mascara ended up being difficult to remove despite not being labelled as waterproof.

Blush - Max Factor Flawless Perfection Blush in 225 Mulberry, this is one of those plummy sophisticated shades, great with a neutral eye look and very workplace appropriate.

Lips - My lips are dry and gross because I’ve been sick but here I’m wearing the Evohe Liquid Mineral Lips in Rosella, this is a smooth and moisturising lip gloss that feels and acts like a nourishing balm, the shade is a perfect MLBB, wearable for everyday.

Arbonne Sheer Finish Tinted Moisturiser - Fair

I really enjoyed this sample, it evened out my complexion with a light dewy coverage, it felt nice and lasted well on my dry skin.

I look pretty deranged in the above photo.

As you can see it gives an even dewy finish, this is perfect for those of us who want natural looking coverage.

It retails for $51| 50mL

Arbonne Perfecting Liquid Foundation - Alabaster

Multitasking liquid foundation with skin firming properties helps lift the appearance of facial contours while providing sun protection.

I was sent quite a few Arbonne samples a while back from Sarah on twitter and I’m finally getting around to swatching and reviewing them!

First up is the Perfecting Liquid Foundation in the shade Alabaster, I immediately went for the palest shade in the range because that’s what I usually am when it comes to most brands, but as you will see in the pictures this one is made for the fairest of fair, which is great for those who struggle to find a foundation in a light enough shade!

imageimageimage

In the first pic of my face I’ve applied the foundation to one side (and blobbed on the other) and in the second pic you can see that the foundation is very fair and gives good coverage, I applied a minimal amount using my fingers so I imagine for those looking for a medium to full coverage foundation this would be great. My skin is particularly dry at the moment due to retinol use so I would recommend this foundation for those with normal/combo/oily skin types.

The foundation comes in 30ml and retails for $56.

I’ll be posting more swatches coming up so stay tuned if you’re curious :) Contact @modern_nanna on twitter if you want to learn more about Arbonne :)

Adore Beauty - Best Of The Best

Adore Beauty recently launched two best of the best sampler kits priced at $34.95, each kit comes with eight deluxe samples…

Skincare + Haircare

Skincare + Makeup

They both look great, given the choice I’d probably go with the skincare and haircare because I’ve been wanting to try the Alpha H liquid Gold and the Kevin Murphy range. Have you tried any of the products featured in these kits, thoughts?
